Giroud: Lille may be the final stop of my career, I focus on this season

Freshly arrived in Lille, the 39-year-old forward is already shining on the pitch and has already announced his desire to end his career in the North.

The top scorer of the Blues also does not completely close the door on a return to Didier Deschamps' squad.

Guest on After Foot on RMC Sport this Thursday evening, Olivier Giroud reflected on his adaptation with LOSC, which he joined for a year this summer from Los Angeles. The just 39-year-old striker has made very good starts in his new colors, scoring three goals in six appearances.

I've adapted well. I've had a good start to the season, good preparation. It had been a while since I last had a complete preparation. So, really, my integration has happened naturally. I'm having a great deal of fun on the field. I think that's been evident since the start of the season.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker also confirmed that Lille will surely be the last club of his already experience-rich career. "I'm focusing on this year, making sure it goes well, and we'll assess at the end. If Lille is my last club? Absolutely, very certainly," he said. It remains to be seen if the striker, whose contract ends in June 2026, will wish to extend his adventure in northern France.

If the question of a possible return to the France national team has also been raised on numerous occasions since the resumption of the championship, the all-time top scorer of the French team (57 goals) prefers to remain evasive, without completely closing the door to one more selection.

"There would really have to be a huge casualty list for me to be recalled, because right now, there are already five forwards missing and the coach doesn't call me up. But he understood that I had turned the page. Now, if in a match or a gathering, there's a need for a quick fix... It's not my style to refuse a selection, even though I've announced my retirement. So to help out, I could do it." he admitted.
