Glum Man United stars pictured arriving for 9am training after Liverpool rout

Manchester United's glum stars reported for training on Monday to face the wrath of furious manager Erik ten Hag in the aftermath of their 7-0 drubbing by Liverpool.

Beaten 5-0 by Liverpool last season, United's stars were then given the day off by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - but there was no such hiding place on Monday at Carrington.

Ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News, arrived at 7am to prepare to see his players two hours later as Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho and David de Gea, who covered his face from cameras, led the miserable stars arriving.

It was a disastrous display for Erik ten Hag's side, who actually started the match reasonably well in the first half and were unfortunate to see themselves behind at the break following Cody Gakpo's opener. Just moments before Casemiro had a goal chalked off for off-side.

But the second 45 might go down as one of the worst in Premier League history as United conceded twice within five minutes and completely lost their heads. Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all got two goals apiece before Roberto Firmino grabbed the seventh to compound a shellshocked United's misery.

United sources say the players were always scheduled to report at 9am at Carrington for recovery sessions and a morning training session.

But the post-mortem following the result will no doubt be held today and throughout the week ahead of the Europa League last 16 first leg with Real Betis on Thursday. United then face Southampton at Old Trafford in the Premier League fixture on Sunday.
