Danish international midfielder Anders Dreyer from San Diego FC added another amazing performance to his superb season, when he scored from just inside the halfway line in a 4-2 win against Minnesota United in the MLS League on Saturday evening.
Down 1-0 early in the game, Dreyer spotted Minnesota keeper Wessel Speel off his line and calmly lifted the ball over the frantically backtracking Wessel, scoring what could be a contender for Goal of the Year from just inside the halfway line, officially measured at 53.52 yards.
The spectacular goal was just an appetizer for what Dreyer was to produce later in the match as the Danish international, who also got on the scoreboard in Denmark's 5-0 friendly win against Lithuania earlier in the week, completed a brace with a 66th-minute penalty, before he set up Milan Iloski for his first of two second-half goals with a superb inswinging cross.
“Anders and I have a great connection on the pitch,” Iloski said after the match. "I know my run, we’ve talked about that peeling run, and someone with his quality makes my job as a goal scorer so much easier.”
Dreyer who is likely to be selected for next month’s MLS All-Star game, now has eight goals and nine assists to his goalscoring contributions for the season, leading the MLS statistics , one ahead of Lionel Messi (10g/6a), making him a likely candidate for the MVP award.
