Graham Potter reveals origins of his 'glow up' having arrived at Chelsea

Graham Potter has addressed his ‘glow up’ and revealed a costly trim from the barber who cuts some of his players’ hair is part of his new look.

The contrast in Potter’s appearance between his early days in coaching and now that he is in the high-profile role of Chelsea head coach has not gone unnoticed, seeing him likened to suave characters such as James Bond and the Milk Tray man.

And down-to-earth Potter laughed: ‘Milk Tray Man? Is he the one that climbed through the windows?

‘Somebody said to me the other day that I have had a ‘glow up’.

‘I have no idea what that is [a positive personal transformation]. I am growing into my face like fine wine.

‘I have had a haircut from somebody that cuts the lads’ hair. So probably that has made a difference, I don’t know. It cost a lot more than I thought it was going to!’

A stylish polo neck jumper has been a feature of Potter’s touchline look since moving to Stamford Bridge but he insisted: ‘I used to wear the polo neck. It is not a new jumper. It’s not that old but not new. If you check back, and I know this is not investigative journalism, I think we beat Tottenham 1-0 with that jumper so maybe it is lucky jumper? I don’t know.

‘I would like discussions about me to be a bit more highbrow than about my jumper or my haircut but at the end of the day there is 24 hr news. You need to fill it with something so it may as well be about my jumper.’

Indeed, Potter has had to get used to seeing his face on screen a bit more since Chelsea prised him away from Brighton last month.

‘No, not so much [has changed in the last five weeks],’ he said. ‘It’s busier because of the double games and I’ve realised I can’t go out so much, I’m a bit more higher profile and my face is unfortunately too often on the television.

‘It’s fine [that I can’t go out much], I’m busy anyway. I’ve got no life I just concentrate on games and try to prepare for football matches.

‘I don’t like seeing myself on tele, I get sweaty palms and I’d rather go to the dentist to be honest. It is what it is. But nothing really, I’m just busy with this job and trying my best to help the team.’
