Guardiola urges Laporte to learn after defender is booked for locking heads with Vardy

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said record signing Aymeric Laporte will have learned a valuable lesson in being booked following a clash with Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy.

Laporte was wound up by Vardy towards the end of Manchester City's 5-1 win against the Foxes at the Etihad and referee Mike Jones booked both players as they squared up to each other and locked foreheads.

Guardiola admits he didn't enjoy seeing £57milllion Laporte - signed from Atletico Bilbao - in a confrontational situation that could have been worse if Mr Jones had judged he'd butted Vardy.

'It was a situation I don't like, hopefully it won't happen again. He (Laporte) knows that here the strikers come to fight.

'He has to realise that the central defenders need a process. Now he knows better. Of course he will be here for a long time and he will learn.'

Vardy had earlier got the better of Laporte, shooting the ball between his legs to score Leicester's only goal after 24 minutes.

The match was 1-1 at that stage but Sergio Aguero took control with four goals after half-time.
