Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made his decision concerning the team’s goalkeeping setup for the remainder of the campaign.
As reported by SPORT, it has been learned that the German coach has no intention of shaking up his goalkeeping situation.
This means Wojciech Szczesny will continue to be his first choice for the rest of the season, even if Marc-Andre ter Stegen gets medical clearance before the end of the season.
Ter Stegen, who has been recovering from a serious injury, might be declared match fit in the coming weeks, but Flick has decided to stay dedicated to Szczesny, who has earned the manager’s trust.
Flick’s trust in Szczesny
With crucial matches coming, including the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, there has been no signal of a trade in the goalkeeper position.
Even though Barcelona conceded three goals against Borussia Dortmund, Flick is standing alongside Szczesny. The manager believes that the Pole has done enough to hold his place in the squad.
The former Poland international is ready to feature in the Copa del Rey final, and barring injury or a severe dip in form, he is going to retain his place for the rest of the campaign.
Ter Stegen could get a chance
Although Ter Stegen may get a chance to feature in one of the remaining La Liga matches, his chances of playing in the Champions League are slim due to UEFA registration rules.
For the German to feature in Europe, Barcelona will need to put off Szczesny from the registered squad, something that the team is understandably not pondering.
No matter the scenario, Ter Stegen is stated to be fully supportive of the manager’s plans.
He has known for a while that returning this season would be tough, and yet, he remains dedicated and prepared to make a contribution when called upon, always putting the club’s best interests first.
