Bayern Munich goal machine Harry Kane continues to eye his own glorious treble - title, Ballon D'Or and World Cup - ahead of England's double header with Wales and Latvia
Harry Kane says winning trophies has only made him more hungry - apart from when it comes to ice cream. England captain Kane, 32, ended his career drought by helping Bayern Munich lift the Bundesliga title to finally realise his dream of winning major silverware.
And Kane says that has only made him determined to win more, score goals - he has already got 19 in 11 games for club and country this season - and even has his sights set on the Ballon D’Or.
Bayern Munich star Kane is in some of the best form of his glorious career but he says he is already looking at small margins to make sure that he can play on for as long as possible. Kane said: “I think I was interested in how I would feel after winning a trophy. Obviously, there's still a lot more I want to achieve in terms of other trophies and bigger trophies for sure. But I think it was always just, in my head, what I was going to feel like after I did achieve winning my first one.
“And I think going into this pre-season, obviously had a tough summer with the Club World Cup, and then not a lot of time to process everything and then straight back into the season.
“I think it could have been easy to just go the other day and maybe be a bit more relaxed. But for sure, I pushed myself the other way, in terms of being even better, eating even cleaner, doing more gym. Just trying to get the most out of what I've got right now.
“I do eat clean anyway. It's just whether the cheat meals after games are not so much, or when you're out with the family, not having as much ice cream. Just things like that.
“Small details, but I think at the highest level those small one percents, half a percent, it’s going to make a big difference.
“And I think when you do something like that, and you consciously make a big effort to improve even more, and then you have a start like I've had, I think it then pushes you even more to see the rewards are there, this can be a big part of it for the rest of the year.
“As we know, the most important months are the latter stages of the season, the February to May and then obviously the World Cup. It's all with that in mind to make sure I'm in the best condition I can be going into those moments.”
Kane’s drive and ambition are the secrets behind a remarkable career. England’s record goal scorer and now he is smashing all records with Bayern Munich. But after finally winning a trophy at club level, there is no doubt that he would love to emulate that with England next summer at the World Cup.
Kane has also been open about wanting to win the Ballon D’Or but, he says, to do that he will either have to win the Champions League with Bayern or the ultimate prize with England.
“Obviously I would love to win the Ballon d’Or,” said Kane. “But essentially it is a team trophy that the best individual from that team wins. So unless you win the biggest competitions it is going to be a Champions League winner or a World Cup winner this time around.
“I would love to win it for sure, it would be an accumulation of doing something great individually and as a team. It would be almost the perfect season.
“The opportunity is there when you are playing at a club like Bayern and competing at the highest level - always one of the favourites to win the Champions League - and with England we are going to be one of the favourites to win the World Cup, so, yeah, there is a long way from now until then.
“But if I keep doing what I am doing and we have a successful season with club and country then there is a chance to do that.”
