Hayes gains insight into USWNT World Cup qualifying squad after thrashing Chile

Emma Hayes believes she has gained great insight on her United States side ahead of World Cup qualifying after they defeated Chile 5-0 in an international friendly.

Croix Bethune opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Jameese Joseph and Emily Sams added to the scoreline before half-time.

Emma Sears and Trinity Rodman then completed the rout in the second half, which came after their 6-0 win over Paraguay days earlier.

It was a dominant display from the USWNT at Harder Stadium as they produced 2.88 expected goals (xG) from their 21 shots while restricting Chile to zero attempts.

Following the SheBelieves Cup in March, Hayes' side will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 World Cup, and the English coach believes their last two results with rotated squads have provided a lot of information.

"This has certainly opened up the year with what we've identified as the key themes to take us through to [World Cup] qualification," Hayes said.

"This camp has given us the reference points to be able to say those are the things we need to add to go to the next level."

Bethune's opener was her first on the international stage, while she also created two chances and competed in the joint-most duels (10).

Hayes was full of praise for the midfielder, insisting she has a big future ahead of her.

"It’s been the best camp I've seen from Croix in terms of her approach, her application," Hayes added.

"She's quick, she's clever. She can unlock things. She can see a pass. I can feel that Croix is going to take another level in her game."
