Henry: This World Cup offers more opportunities; African teams' success is gratifying

In a FIFA World Cup group stage match that just concluded, DR Congo came from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1, securing their first FIFA World Cup victory and advancing to the knockout stage for the first time. African teams have performed exceptionally well in this FIFA World Cup, and French legend Thierry Henry stated that it is gratifying to see African teams achieve strong results.

"The increased number of participating teams in this tournament naturally gives more opportunities to each team, and there are quite a few African teams participating in this event.

However, it's not just African teams that are rising.

We've talked before about many players having dual nationality and being able to choose which country to represent, right?

I remember when I was young, many players of African descent were born and raised in France or other countries. But now, African football associations recruit these players very early. Ultimately, the choice depends on the player's sense of belonging. I have no objection to this at all; players can completely choose to represent the national team they feel they belong to, and this is the current trend in football.

The same applies at the coaching level. Take Ivory Coast as an example; their head coach was born in France, chose to play for Ivory Coast during his playing career, and now coaches the Ivory Coast national team.

So I am well aware of the strength of these African teams; the youth development system these players received is no different from what I experienced back then. It's truly gratifying to see African teams deliver outstanding performances."
