LAFC is finalizing a deal to sign World Cup-winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Tottenham.

Lloris’ contract expires next summer but the 37-year-old is set to join the Major League Soccer side this winter ahead of preseason starting next month.

The deal’s completion is now considered a formality, with the Frenchman ending an 11-year stay in north London.

Lloris made 444 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions, including 361 in the Premier League since arriving from Lyon in 2012.

Made club captain in 2015, he played 25 times in the top flight last term, but has not featured under Ange Postecoglou in the first half of this campaign, with Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster recognised as No 1 and No 2 respectively.

Lloris has said earlier this year that he was open to a move and was allowed to miss the club’s pre-season tour as he sought a summer transfer that failed to materialise.

Lloris has also made 145 appearances for France, winning the 2018 World Cup and captaining his country in the 2022 final in Qatar.

LAFC advanced to MLS Cup this year, but lost on the road to the Columbus Crew. LAFC won 2022 MLS Cup and also made the 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup final.

Their starting goalkeeper of the past two years, Maxime Crepeau, is out of contract and a free agent.

The 2024 MLS season starts on February 21.
