René Higuita heaped praise on James Rodríguez, even comparing the former FC Porto player to Argentine football stars Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.
In statements on the Mexican program Somos Fox, the former Colombian international highlighted the quality of his compatriot and Club León player, asserting that athletes like James Rodríguez bring "color, brilliance, and beauty" to football.
"Talking about James Rodríguez in Colombia is like talking about Lionel Messi or Diego Maradona. They are different players who, with their quality, bring color, brilliance, and beauty to football. I would renew his contract, but who knows what might happen," said the former goalkeeper.
Throughout his career, James Rodríguez won 22 titles, most notably two Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, as well as the Europa League and three national championships with FC Porto.
