Hjulmand urges Leverkusen to extend their four-game winning run

Kasper Hjulmand has called on his Bayer Leverkusen side to continue their winning run when they face Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

The Werkself have won their last four games in all competitions, with their most recent victory over St. Pauli seeing them qualify for the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

Leverkusen have won their last two Bundesliga matches, with the only longer winning streak for the Werkself this season coming between matchdays five and eight (four).

They also qualified for the Champions League play-offs with a 3-0 win over Villarreal, and Hjulmand has urged his players to keep the momentum going.

"It's very important to continue with the next good result," said Hjulmand. "The players are fully focused, and they know how important it is.

"We've analysed the games in detail, of course. We've come a long way, especially in our passing and dominant style of play.

"We want to be consistent and play our game over 90 minutes and put in a good performance."

Leverkusen have also bolstered their defence, recalling Tim Oermann from his loan at Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Hjulmand believes the versatile 22-year-old can offer different qualities in the defensive department.

"Of course, we've seen a lot of videos of him and were able to get an impression," Hjulmand added.

"His first sessions here were very good; it was a good start. He is physically strong and very quick, and will strengthen us in the coming months.

"He can play in the centre and on the right, that's quite natural for him and something he's learned. But I think he can also play on the left. We'll see over time."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Borussia Monchengladbach – Haris Tabakovic

Tabakovic recently scored his 10th goal in the Bundesliga this season, meaning he has scored 42% of the club's goals – a higher share of his team's goals than any other player in the league.

His first Bundesliga goal of the 2025-26 campaign came against Leverkusen in a 1-1 draw.

Bayer Leverkusen – Malik Tillman

Tillman recently ended his longest goal drought in the Bundesliga (seven games without a goal), and could now score in consecutive top-flight matches for the first time.

In the reverse fixture against Gladbach, he scored the opening goal.
