Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has explained the story behind his iconic goal celebration.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 30-year-old said: "I just want to get into something that I have been getting a lot of requests about which is the Sturridge dance.
"[Or] The Wave which FIFA called it but that's not the name it is the Sturridge dance.
"Anyway, back to the original story. I was hanging out with my cousins and my friends in my apartment. There was some house music playing, couple drinks flowing and I literally just started doing that move.
"It wasn't as smooth, wasn't as clean [as it is now] but like I said I was a little bit tipsy and just decided to start moving that way. We all found it hilarious and then I was just like if I score I'll do it.
"I think the very first time I did the dance we played Man United in the Carling Cup at Stamford Bridge I was playing for Chelsea and that was the first time I brought the dance out.
"It has evolved a lot since then. It wasn't as smooth or as clean as it is now."
Liverpool fans watched Sturridge do the dance on a number of occasions, and it is particularly memorable from the 2013/14 season when the England international scored 21 times in 29 Premier League outings.
Sturridge continued: "I just feel like celebrations are something that define your character, show people your personality, show people who you are as a person and where you have come from and the things you like to do behind the scenes.
"A lot of people have been requesting for it and I am still honoured by that because I didn't expect it to last this long.
"I am really honoured by that and I want to thank you the fans for allowing me to have a celebration go down as one of the best in the game."
