Match Report

Inter Miami were unable to record their first victory at Nu Stadium at the second attempt, as Adri Mehmeti's equaliser forced them to settle for a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

The reigning MLS Cup champions, whose first outing at their purpose-built home resulted in a 2-2 draw with Austin FC last weekend, were held to the same scoreline by Michael Bradley's Red Bulls.

Despite Miami applying plenty of early pressure, New York struck first in the 15th minute when Julian Hall held up two home defenders in the right channel before brilliantly cutting back and picking out Jorge Ruvalcaba, who finished calmly.

Ethan Horvath smothered Rodrigo De Paul's effort as the hosts pushed for an equaliser, which finally arrived in first-half stoppage time as Mateo Silvetti met the Argentina midfielder's cross with a superb, controlled volley at the far post.

Miami remained on the front foot after the interval with Lionel Messi skewing wide of the near post, and it was the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner that carved out the chance for their second goal 10 minutes after the restart.

Messi carried the ball towards the area dangerously and Mehmeti's tackle inadvertently poked it into German Berterame, who swept into the bottom-right corner.

But the Red Bulls refused to go away, and another neat turn and centre from Hall was diverted over the line by Mehmeti with 13 minutes to play.

Luis Suarez passed up two chances to win it for the Herons, who also saw Berterame's scrappy effort disallowed for offside and Messi's free-kick tipped away by Horvath.

Data Debrief: Miami battle back again, but victory at Nu Stadium eludes them

Miami have fallen behind early in both of their first two games at Nu Stadium, though they did recover to draw both of those matches.

Since the start of last term, Miami have trailed in 21 regular-season games, but have only lost eight of them (W6 D7).

However, unlike the Austin match, they later found themselves with a lead to protect here, and would have been hopeful of a victory.

Javier Mascherano's team had more shots (16 to five), shots on target (seven to two) and expected goals (2.55 to 1.33), but could not get over the line, leaving them third in the Eastern Conference.
