The Switzerland defender has joined Inter on-loan from Manchester City for the season.
He told Inter's media channels: "It will definitely be different from the Premier League, even the Bundesliga was different. I still don't know what it's like as a player, but I've seen a lot of games and I like it a lot, which is also why I made this decision.
"I can't wait to start with (coach Cristian) Chivu, to meet him and understand what kind of playing ideas he has in mind.
"For me, Inter is the biggest club in Italy and one of the best in the world. They've proven that in recent years. It was very easy to choose this club.
"I think I can play in any position in a back three. I played in the middle for Switzerland. I like playing in different positions; I'll play wherever the coach asks."
On joining Swiss teammate Yann Sommer at Inter, Akanji added: "He texted me and offered to help me with anything. He's happy to have me here, we'll be in touch soon, and I can't wait to see him too."
