Italiano leaves Bologna by mutual consent

Bologna have confirmed the departure of head coach Vincenzo Italiano following a mutual agreement.

Italiano joined the Rossoblu in 2024 following two seasons with Fiorentina, who lost three major finals under his watch – two in the Conference League and one in the Coppa Italia.

He went one better in his debut season with Bologna, as they defeated Milan 1-0 in the 2024-25 Coppa Italia final to end a 51-year wait for silverware.

Bologna marginally improved in Serie A during Italiano's second season at the helm, going from a ninth-placed finish in 2024-25 to eighth in 2025-26, while losing the Supercoppa Italiana final to Napoli.

Italiano also led the team to the quarter-finals of both the Coppa Italia and the Europa League, but he has now opted to step down.

A club statement read: "Bologna FC 1909 announces that a mutual agreement has been reached with Vincenzo Italiano to terminate his contract.

"Italiano informed the club that he believes his time at Bologna has come to an end after two seasons marked by excellent results, regardless of any future professional opportunities.

"The club would like to thank Vincenzo for the passion and dedication with which he carried out his work over these years, which will remain part of the club's history, not least for the Coppa Italia triumph on May 14, 2025.

"Bologna FC 1909 extends its best wishes to Italiano and his staff for the next chapter of their careers."

Italiano has been strongly linked with the vacant Napoli job, after Antonio Conte stepped down following his own two-year spell with the Partenopei, though Massimiliano Allegri is also believed to be a candidate after being sacked by AC Milan.
