Vincent Kompany was delighted by the professionalism and determination his Bayern Munich team demonstrated during their 8-1 demolition of Wolfsburg.

The runaway Bundesliga leaders extended their lead at the summit to 11 points, after a comprehensive display at the Allianz Arena on Sunday.

Bayern were pegged back after taking an early lead, but regained their advantage through Luis Diaz to take a 2-1 cushion into half-time.

The hosts then struck twice within the opening eight minutes of the second half and, despite their comfortable position, Kompany was pleased by the way his players kept pushing for more goals.

Michael Olise scored twice, while Raphael Guerreiro, Harry Kane and Leon Goretzka also got in on the act for the relentless hosts.

"It's not normal and a given [to beat Wolfsburg 8-1]," Kompany said. "The first half really wasn't easy.

"I said that Wolfsburg are good going forward and don't need many chances. We saw just that in the first half.

"I always felt we were close and that more chances would come when they got a bit tired. And that's exactly what happened in the second half. And we took them.

"It's those moments where we're 5-1, 6-1 or 7-1 up, but keep going, keep pressing and trying to score more goals. I really like that. And then there's the mix of the youngsters coming on and showing what they can do, but we don't lose that Bayern face."

Manuel Neuer echoed the head coach's thoughts, highlighting the way every player wanted "to be a spark" during the crushing win.

"That felt really good," the skipper added. "It's what we wanted on a cold January day to get us going. It came off and we're all very happy.

"Every player in our team is important, and you can see that. Everyone who comes on wants to be a spark, wants to give the team and the game something.

"We always play to score. You can see that in the result, that we don't stop playing or just manage things, but that we go for the next goal. We try to show our best game, and you see that from the first minute until the last."
