Jadon Sancho and the Bundesliga's assist kings in 2018/19

  /  autty

Jadon Sancho and Joshua Kimmich are battling it out for the title of 2018/19 Bundesliga assist king, but who else is serving up goals by the bucket load?

Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

Appearances: 28 (21 starts)

Assists: 13

Assists per game: 0.46

Jadon Sancho leads the way in Europe for the number of assists provided after 28 matches. He started 2018/19 as a substitute, but a handful of match-winning cameos in the first six games - providing assists off the bench against RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Bayer Leverkusen - persuaded head coach Lucien Favre to make him a starter and he has held down his place in the BVB team ever since.

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

Appearances: 28 (28 starts)

Assists: 10

Assists per game: 0.36

With Joshua Kimmich manning the supply line, it's no wonder Bayern Munich are the Bundesliga's top scorers in 2018/19. His crosses from open play and corners are being lapped up. The 24-year-old chimed in with brace of assists against VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 19, otherwise it's a clean split of one over eight of his 28 appearances - although he hasn't chipped in with a goal since Matchday 24...

Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen)

Appearances: 27 (24 starts)

Assists: 10

Assists per game: 0.37

Julian Brandt chimed in with five assists last season and only had three to his name at the halfway point in 2018/19, but the Bayer Leverkusen maestro has gone up a gear under Peter Bosz. He set up Lucas Alario in the Matchday 20 win over Bayern, before registering two goals and as many assists a week later against Mainz. He also turned provider against Borussia Dortmund, Hannover (a hat-trick of assists!) and Hoffenheim.

Sebastien Haller (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Appearances: 27 (23 starts)

Assists: 9

Assists per game: 0.33

Sebastien Haller doesn't just take chances, he makes them, too. Eintracht Frankfurt have six of the seven games in which the 14-goal Frenchman has furnished an assist, with four coming in games against Hannover and Fortuna Düsseldorf during the first half of 2018/19. He's only provided one since Matchday 15, however.

Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Appearances: 27 (27 starts)

Assists: 9

Assists per game: 0.33

Thorgan Hazard hasn't scored since Matchday 16, but the Belgium international continues to offer up chances for his Borussia Mönchengladbach teammates. A dab hand from open play and set pieces, he's on four assists in 10 outings since the turn of the year, taking his season haul to nine.

Filip Kostic (Eintracht Frankfurt)

Appearances: 28 (27 starts)

Assists: 9

Assists per game: 0.32

The unsung hero of Frankfurt's top-four push, Filip Kostic and his trusty left foot are keeping the likes of Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic in business. The Serbian served up two of Frankfurt's seven goals in their demolition of Fortuna Düsseldorf on Matchday 8, and has produced a steady steam of assists since, albeit picking up the pace in recent outings with four in six games between Matchdays 22 and 28.

Max Kruse (Werder Bremen)

Appearances: 28 (28 starts)

Assists: 8

Assists per game: 0.28

Max Kruse has been at the heart of Werder Bremen's best work in 2018/19. Only one of his eight assists has come in a losing effort - and that was against Bayern on Matchday 13. The Werder captain made it successive assists as the Green-Whites bounced back to down Fortuna, and went one better by setting up goals in a trio of wins against Mainz, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen on Matchdays 25, 26 and 27.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Appearances: 27 (27 starts)

Assists: 7

Assists per game: 0.26

It remains to be seen whether three-time Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski will add a fourth Torjägerkanone to his collection in 2018/19, but he could yet make it a career-best season haul of assists. He laid on 10 goals in two of his four campaigns as a Dortmund player and has reached seven twice before in a Bayern shirt - can he trump the lot with six games to go?

Thomas Müller (Bayern Munich)

Appearances: 26 (22 starts)

Assists: 7

Assists per game: 0.27

Thomas Müller has assisted more goals than he's scored (six) after 28 matches. That's fairly typical for the self-title Raumdeuter, who has out-assisted his total strike rate in five of his previous nine full Bundesliga seasons. Only once - when he scored a career-high 20 league goals in 2015/16 - has he failed to reach double figures for assists. His seventh of the current campaign fell against Dortmund on Matchday 28.

Florian Neuhaus (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Appearances: 27 (20 starts)

Assists: 7

Assists per game: 0.26

Florian Neuhaus is the surprise name on the list, the 22-year-old Gladbach midfielder having only made his Bundesliga debut on Matchday 1 of 2018/19. He served up the first of his seven assists on that milestone afternoon against Bayer Leverkusen, and was averaging one every other game up to and including Matchday 14. He hasn't supplied a goal since, though he has scored two of his own in that time.
