Following DR Congo's 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan, South Korea has been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup knockout stage. Former South Korean star Park Ji-sung commented on the disappointing result.
After DR Congo defeated Uzbekistan, commentator Park Ji-sung stated: "Perhaps we anticipated this result a few days ago. At this moment, we must reflect on why we find ourselves in this situation—it is deeply disappointing."
"As for how we should prepare for the FIFA World Cup and how to develop Korean football, it feels as though we spent 10 years learning, only to forget it all. This recurring cycle is heartbreaking. To avoid repeating past mistakes, we must look forward and make steady progress, step by step."
JTBC commentator Kim Hwan added: "The results prove that South Korea was not qualified to advance past the group stage. Despite having two matches in which they could have advanced on their own merit, they still failed to reach the knockout stage. Korean football's current state is not merely stagnant but regressing. We must undergo thorough reform to avoid repeating past mistakes."
