As we head into the the latest international break, Goal pays tribute to the best buys of the summer transfer window
Paco Alcacer
Paco Alcacer has featured in just four games in all competitions since joining Borussia Dortmund from Barcelona as part of a €2m (£1.8m/$2.3m) loan deal – yet the striker has already netted seven times. Indeed, the 25-year-old Spaniard is the Bundesliga's top scorer, with six goals, even though he only played 81 minutes in total and a permanent move to Signal Iduna Park at the end of the season is already looking like a certainty.
Jonathan Bamba
Jonathan Bamba scored seven goals in Ligue 1 last season. The winger has already matched that tally after just nine appearances for new club Lille. As a result, the free transfer from Saint-Etienne sits just one goal behind Paris Saint-Germain superstars Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in the goalscorers' chart.
Joao Cancelo
No surprise that a Portugal international signed by Juventus makes our list of the signings of the season so far – but it's not Cristiano Ronaldo. The €117m (£105m/$135m) signing from Real Madrid has enjoyed an impressive start to his career in Turin but his compatriot Joao Cancelo has proven even better value for money at €40.4m (£36.4m/$46.5m). The former Valencia right-back, who spent last season on loan at Inter, has slotted seamlessly into the Bianconeri backline, while at the same time proving a constant threat going forward.
Gonzalo Higuain
AC Milan may be a little annoyed that Andre Silva has found his shooting boots at Sevilla but at least they replaced him with one of the best strikers in the world. Gonzalo Higuain has continued to do what he does best since joining the Rossoneri on an €18m (£16.2m/$20.7m) loan deal with an option to buy: score goals. The Argentine has already hit six in seven appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Jorginho
Jorginho has been a revelation since joining Chelsea from Napoli as part of a deal that could rise to £57m ($75m), completely justifying Maurizio Sarri's decision to take the Italy international with him to Stamford Bridge. Just as he did at the San Paolo, the Brazil-born midfielder is averaging over 100 passes per game and has turned the Blues into genuine title challengers with his immaculate one-touch football.
James Maddison
It is only a matter of time before James Maddison is capped by England, with the attacking midfielder having made an immediate impact in the Premier League with Leicester City. The £20m ($22.9m) summer signing from Norwich City has already scored three times for the Foxes, as well as contributing two assists.
Rui Patricio
Wolves got one of the bargains of the century when they snapped up Rui Patricio on a free after he terminated his contract with Sporting. The Portugal international is quickly proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the league and his excellent shot-stopping has heled the newly-promoted side climb to seventh in the Premier League standings.
Krzysztof Piatek
The top scorer across Europe's 'Big Five' leagues, Krzysztof Piatek has taken Italian football by storm since joining Genoa from Cracovia for just €4.5m (£4m/$5.2m). The Poland striker has netted in all eight of his appearances so far, opening his account with four goals in a Coppa Italia clash with Lecce before striking nine times in his first seven Serie A outings.
Alassane Plea
Alassane Plea joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Nice this summer and his €23m (£20.7m/$26.5m) transfer fee is already looking like a bargain. The 25-year-old French forward has scored eight times in eight appearances in all competitions, propelling his new side up to third place in the Bundesliga standings in the process.
Richarlison
Many were shocked when Everton paid Watford £40m ($52.6m) for Richarlison but the forward has already gone a long way towards repaying their faith in his ability. Despite picking up a three-game suspension for a senseless red card, the 21-year-old has still managed to rack up four times in the Premier League, with his fine form earning him his first two Brazil caps.
Andre Silva
After a torrid debut season in Italy, Andre Silva has rediscovered his goalscoring touch in Spain, after joining Sevilla on loan from AC Milan. The Portugal international has already racked up seven goals in just eight Liga outings, making it increasingly likely that the Rojiblancos will take up their option to sign the 22-year-old for €35m (£30.6m/$40.3m) at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
Tomas Vaclik
With both Barcelona and Real Madrid out of sorts, Sevilla are looking like real title candidates this season. As well as Andre Silva banging them in up top, they also have Tomas Vaclik keeping them out at the back. No goalkeeper in Europe's 'Big Five' leagues has made more saves (57) or kept more clean sheets (seven) in all competitions this season than the €7m (£6.1m/$7m) signing from Basel.
