Jose Enrique took the opportunity to poke fun at Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes after Portugal's 2-2 draw with Serbia.
The Portuguese stars both failed to get on the scoresheet in the 2022 World Cup qualifier, with Liverpool's Diogo Jota scoring both his country's goals.
And former Red Enrique took to Instagram to make a slight dig at Ronaldo and Fernandes, referring to the number of penalties the pair score.
'BREAKING NEWS: Jota is injured,' Enrique joked.
'Jota has sustained a back injury after carrying Penaldo and Penandes. How many of you is heart stop?'
The former left back enjoyed five years at Anfield, so it was no surprise that two players with nearly 250 appearances for Manchester United were the targets for his post.
Ronaldo thought he should have got on the scoresheet, believing he had won it for his country in stoppage time only for the officials to incorrectly deem the ball to have not crossed the line.
The 36-year-old charged over to the linesman and earned himself a booking for his remonstrations, before storming off the pitch at full-time and throwing his captain's armband to the ground.
Despite Portugal being held to a draw, having been 2-0 up, it was a better night for Jota on a personal level.
The forward notched his fourth and fifth international goals in just 11 appearances to continue what has been an impressive season for both club and country.
Jota has already scored ten times for Liverpool since his summer arrival from Wolves, and returned to scoring ways against his former side in the last match before the international break having been out for nearly three months with a knee injury.
