Jose Mourinho sets the record straight on Cristiano Ronaldo transfer talks

Jose Mourinho has scotched suggestions that he is planning to try and sign Cristiano Ronaldo for Fenerbahce.

It was reported late last week that Mourinho had held conversations with Ronaldo, currently of Al-Nassr, over a potential reunion in Turkey after working with the multi-time Ballon d'Or winner previously at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo's current contract with the Saudi Pro League outfit expires at the end of the season and there has been speculation that he could seek a return to Europe for the final act of an illustrious career - but he is not heading to Fenerbahce.

That's according to Mourinho himself, who has shot down said reports. When he was asked about them, he said: "News about Cristiano Ronaldo to Fenerbahce are ridiculous.

"Cristiano might come to Istanbul to eat because it's right in the middle of the road between Saudi and Portugal. Or maybe he'll come see his old friend Jose, we can eat at my hotel."

While Mourinho is adamant that Ronaldo will not be joining him at Fenerbahce for anything more than a catch-up, it remains to be seen whether or not Ronaldo will stay at Al-Nassr beyond the summer.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr back in December 2022 after ending a second spell at Manchester United early. His arrival was the prelude to an influx of high-profile stars arriving in Saudi Arabia, though some have already departed.

The man himself has heavily implied that he has no plans to retire imminently, meaning he is likely to either extend his stay at Al-Nassr or seek a new club next summer. Ronaldo also stressed that it was the same for Portugal, whom he scored twice for during the most recent international break.

When he was asked about retirement this month, Ronaldo said: "I just want to enjoy. Plan for the retirement… if it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know. I’m turning 40 soon… I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going.

"The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire."
