Juan Mata hilariously fails in attempt to pull off Manchester accent

Juan Mata hilariously failed to pull of a Manchester accent as he shared a taxi ride with his United team-mates.

The Spaniard took part in the filming of the Manchester episode of Where to, Britain? - a programme on Channel 4 about the lives, laughs and candid confessions of passengers and drivers across the country - along with Marcus Rashford, Ashley Young and Axel Tuanzebe. It's fair to say he stole the show.

Young asked Mata to show everyone his impression of a Manchester accent during the journey and he duly obliged.

'Alright, mate,' Mata said in an unknown accent. Even he wasn't sold on it. A chorus of laughter ensued.

The Uber driver, who is a Manchester man born and bred, wanted to test Mata, and asked if he could say anything else.

He gave him an example of what the Manchester accent really sounds like for guidance. It didn't help. 'How's it hanging,' Mata said in his second attempt to pose as a local Manchester lad.

Same result, still no where near and more laughter. Despite being at United for the past four years now, it seems Mata is still far away from mastering the local accent.

Tuanzebe, who was born in DR Congo but who moved to England and grew up around the Rochdale area, was probably better suited to the task.

He did not weigh-in though, instead he showed off that he was the only one of the four United players who knew how much a pint of milk costs.

The taxi driver asked the question, there was silence and then laughter. But the United youngster was quick to say he did actually know.

'It's like 90p,' he said. 'When you go to the shops, do you pay for bags or bring your own,' the driver asked. 'No, I bring my own ones in the car,' Tuanzebe responded.

His team-mates couldn't believed it and rolled around in laughter.

The episode is the first of a six-part series, which includes other famous faces in the journeys around Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow.
