Chelsea transfer news: A departure from Stamford Bridge for Kai Havertz is firmly on the cards with Real Madrid, Arsenal and one other unnamed club interested in a summer deal
Kai Havertz has been sent a confusing transfer message by his former team-mate Timo Werner following links to Real Madrid and Arsenal. The Germany international is currently considering his future at Stamford Bridge after Carlo Ancelotti's side identified him as a potential replacement for Karim Benzema with the Gunners also keeping tabs on his situation.
Havertz was regularly used as the lone striker throughout Chelsea's 2022/23 season, but he only managed nine goals from 47 games. A return to his home country at Bayern Munich was briefly discussed earlier this year following his claim about the German champions.
"Bayern are generally a huge club that it's hard to say no to as a German player," said Havertz, speaking to Sport Bild. "But my personal goal has always been to play abroad at some point. In England or Spain."
The 23-year-old has had the chance to play in England for the last few seasons and an opportunity to fulfil his other abroad desire could arrive ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The interest in Havertz from Madrid is concrete but there is currently a significant gap in valuation between the two parties. Chelsea are demanding £75million to let Havertz go, as per the Guardian, but Ancelotti's side see £50million as a more realistic fee.
While a move to Madrid is likely a dream, Havertz looks to have been advised by Werner that he may be better off in west London. "Kai always got his minutes, no matter how things went at Chelsea," Werner said in an interview with Sport1. "It was a bit chaotic there in my time. But the team will move back to where Chelsea belong in the next few years."
Alongside Madrid's enquiries, a report from The Telegraph has stated Arsenal are monitoring Havertz's situation with one other unnamed club interested in signing him. Both Arsenal and Madrid can offer Champions League football to the former Bayer Leverkusen man and as that is something Chelsea cannot do, it may cause Havertz to lean more towards leaving.
Despite seemingly hinting that he should say, Werner also added in the interview mentioned above that maybe he should seek opportunities elsewhere. "A move to another club where you might play internationally is better, of course, because you want to play Champions League every year," he added.
