Harry Kane has showed the biggest sign yet that he is ready to walk away from Tottenham this summer, after stressing his need to be winning team trophies above personal honours.
Kane has spoke out this week in the aftermath of being crowned the Premier League player of the year at the London Football awards, and worryingly for Spurs fans he appears to have grown tired of constantly earning individual accolades but having no team medals to his name.
The striker is contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2024, but with Kane set to turn 28 in July, he is now reaching the crucial years of his career where he is at the very peak of his powers.
With both Manchester City and rivals United in the market for an elite level striker, Kane has chosen to speak out on his personal situation and admit he wants to be 'winning the biggest prizes.'
Speaking after the London Football awards, Kane told the Evening Standard: 'Individual awards are great, they are fantastic achievements.
'When I look back at the end of my career, I will go over it and take in a little bit more. The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies. As much as this [award] is great, I want to be winning the biggest prizes that there is to offer as a team and we are not quite doing that.
'It is one of those [situations], it is bittersweet. I would rather be winning team trophies and this award. It is what it is.'
Kane is dealing with his most recent final heartbreak, after missing out on the Carabao Cup to his potential suitors City.
Pep Guardiola's side retained the trophy for the fourth campaign running, defeating Spurs in the final courtesy of a late Aymeric Laporte header.
It is the second time Kane has tasted defeat on the big stage, after having his hopes dashed by Liverpool in Madrid after Spurs defied the odds to reach the 2019 Champions League final.
Kane's latest honour joins a steadily filling personal trophy cabinet, and the England captain admits he takes great pride in winning such prestigious awards, but points out that his career may end up feeling unfulfilled without club trophies.
Kane added: 'I am proud to win it. It means it has been a good season on the pitch, so I have just got to try and continue what I am doing.
'For sure, if I finish my career as Premier League top goalscorer and, hopefully, England top goalscorer, that'd be incredible — but it wouldn't feel as good if I didn't have a lot of team trophies to go with that. If I didn't have the Premier League or a European Championships to go with that.
'From an individual point of view, of course that's the end goal, to try and score as many goals as possible and be at the top of those charts. But, for sure, without winning the biggest trophies as a team, it wouldn't feel as good.'
