Kevin De Bruyne has undergone surgery on a hamstring injury and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with the Napoli midfielder facing a race to be fit for the World Cup
Former Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he's undergone surgery for an injury, with the midfielder set for a spell on the sidelines as he starts his recovery.
The 34-year-old left the Etihad Stadium at the end of his contract last summer after a decade-long spell with the club. He signed for Serie A side Napoli on a free transfer later in the transfer window.
De Bruyne quickly became a crucial player for the Italian squad. In his 11 matches across all competitions, he's netted four goals and provided two assists.
However, his season has been hampered by an injury. A hamstring issue has caused him to sit out the last three games in both Serie A and the Champions League.
He's now taken to Instagram to share the latest news on his injury and recovery. "Hi everyone, as you all know I will be sidelined for a while," he posted.
"The good news is that the surgery went perfect. "My way back has already started! Thank you for all the messages!".
The injury happened during Napoli's 3-1 victory over Inter at the end of last month. De Bruyne scored the opening goal from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, but grabbed the back of his leg after hitting the ball and was soon substituted.
It was later confirmed that he had suffered a high-grade tear to a hamstring muscle and needed surgery. After undergoing the procedure, De Bruyne will now start his rehabilitation to get back to action as soon as possible.

According to The Sun, the injury has sparked concerns that he could miss next summer's World Cup. It's reported that the recovery timeline has been set at a minimum of four months.
The injury is akin to one he sustained while playing for Man City in 2023. After undergoing surgery, the midfielder made a triumphant return to the pitch four months later.
