According to Kicker, Hwang Hee-Chan publicly vented his frustration over an uncalled foul during an away match against Dynamo Dresden, which coach Miron Muslic considered an overreaction.
Schalke 04 entered crisis after their 0-2 DFB-Pokal defeat to Dynamo Dresden. Miron Muslic was dissatisfied not only with the team's on-field performance but also with an incident on the sidelines.
Near the end of the first half, Hwang Hee-Chan argued with a Dresden official and fourth official Tom Bauer on the sidelines, pushing away the Schalke physiotherapist who attempted to calm him. Hwang Hee-Chan's outburst was triggered by referee Wolfgang Haslberger's failure to call a foul.
After Edin Dzeko sent a long pass, Hwang Hee-Chan was brought down following a challenge with Dresden player Kevin Müller near the opponent's penalty area. Hwang Hee-Chan received brief treatment for a head injury and then waited off the pitch for a minute. Miron Muslic stated: "I think it was a clear foul, I just wasn't sure if it was inside or outside the box."
Miron Muslic then communicated with the fourth official. The 44-year-old said: "I had a brief conversation with the fourth official, who confirmed it was a foul, but VAR could not intervene because it was not a clear and obvious error. We cannot understand this decision." Hwang Hee-Chan received a yellow card for his complaints to the referee, and Miron Muslic did not approve of his reaction. Muslic stated: "I saw Hwang Hee-Chan's actions, and I didn't like it. We will discuss it internally."
Sporting director Youri Mulder expressed similar views in the mixed zone and said he would speak to Hwang Hee-Chan about the incident. Despite the confrontation before halftime, Miron Muslic allowed Hwang Hee-Chan to continue playing. Apart from a header in the 45th minute, Hwang Hee-Chan's performance was disappointing. He was replaced by Junior Adamu late in the match, but Adamu also could not change the team's losing result.
