Kyle Walker-Peters on brink of Tottenham exit after agreeing Southampton personal terms

Kyle Walker-Peters' move from Tottenham to Southampton will be confirmed early next week after personal terms were agreed on Saturday morning.

The two clubs are now waiting for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to undergo a medical ahead of his switch in the opposite direction.

And once that is done — and assuming he passes it — the two deals, although separate, will be announced together.

Club-to-club agreements were reached on fees of £15million rising to £19m for Hojbjerg and £12m plus add-ons for Walker-Peters on Thursday.

The last stumbling block after lengthy negotiations was around the sell-on clauses in both contracts but the two clubs finally struck a deal that afternoon.

Personal terms on a five-year contract between Hojbjerg and Spurs had already been agreed subject to him passing his medical.

And now Walker-Peters has reached an agreement with Southampton, with whom he has been on loan since the January window, both moves will become official in the coming days.

Walker-Peters will not need a medical at St Mary’s because he underwent one at the start of the year ahead of his loan switch.

Fulham and West Ham had also shown an interest in the 23-year-old right-back, although Southampton were always in pole position and they have finally got the deal over the line.

The fact Spurs boss Jose Mourinho had made Hojbjerg his top priority this summer smoothed the path for Walker-Peters to move in the opposite direction.

He came through the ranks at Spurs and had hoped Mourinho’s arrival would give him a chance to shine in the first team but opportunities were limited with Serge Aurier preferred.

Denmark international Hojbjerg, meanwhile, joined Southampton from Bayern Munich for £13.5m in 2016.

He was also a target for Everton but made it clear from the off that linking up with Mourinho was his preference.
