Carlos Vela and Adama Diomonde each scored twice as LAFC beat Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy 5-3 in the Western Conference semifinals of the MLS playoffs.
The highly anticipated match known as "El Trafico" lived up to the billing as the Supporters' Shield winners LAFC bested the Galaxy at the Banc of California Stadium for their first win over their crosstown rivals in six tries.
Vela scored in the 16th minute with a right-footed shot from the left side of the box, minutes after hitting the woodwork on free kick.
Vela struck again in the 40th minute when he slipped through the Galaxy backline and found an open net for the tap-in.
The Galaxy answered back just as quickly when Ibrahimovic found a streaking Cristian Pavon down the left flank for the goal.
After the break, Ibrahimovic pounced on a LAFC defensive error in the 55th minute to score after goalkeeper Tyler Miller failed to gather the ball in front of his net.
The Galaxy briefly took momentum but the hosts responded with two goals within a two-minute span as Diego Rossi and Adama Diamonde put LAFC up again.
After Rolf Feltscher gave Galaxy hope with a score in the 77th minute with a header off a free kick, Diamonde struck again in the 80th to seal the win.
The winners, in their second year of existence, now will host the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference final on Nov. 26 for a spot in the MLS Cup final.
