Lampard bemoans Chelsea's VAR fortune but admits decisions were correct

Frank Lampard has bemoaned that lady luck was once again on Liverpool's side as they beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, it was clear Lampard was feeling hard done to.

He said: "It is what it is, I'd like to think we might get a couple in our favour at some point.

"It happened in the Super Cup, we got 2-0 up with a really tight decision against Pulisic where we probably would have won that game and it happens again.

"You can see Mason's a tiny bit offside, it's probably more frustrating than anything.

"It's a sad thing for the celebrations and the moment but if we're looking for correct decisions that's where we are at now.

"It definitely changes the atmosphere in the crowd, on the pitch. We're slightly deflated and they're boosted by it. We think we deserve to be level at the time with the goal and then we think can we go on and win this game.

"Little moments like that change the face of it."

Indeed, the Chelsea boss didn't stop there. After feeling aggrieved that Mount was correctly ruled offside, Lampard insisted that his side put in the better performance throughout the 90 minutes.

Despite still awaiting a first home win under his tenure, the Chelsea head coach was pleased with what his side had to offer in front of their home faithful.

"We didn't deserve to lose, possibly could have won," he added.

"I don't want to sound naive because details to change games against top opposition particularly and to concede, the free-kick is a ridiculous goal, fair play to that, but Firmino shouldn't be having a free header in our six-yard box.

"Performance-wise I thought we were the better team. Second half we were pushing, character, started to do things that we keep trying to do here, which is a work in progress."
