Ligue 1 Results, Round 2
AS Monaco finish matchday two top of Ligue 1 after a comfortable victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace, Paris Saint-Germain, however, remain winless after their first two games.
Marcelino’s difficult start as Marseille boss continues. After a midweek elimination from the Champions League, Les Phocéens could only manage a draw against 10-man Metz. A late Vitinha strike salvaged a draw for Marseille after Georges Mikautadze had given Metz the lead, despite their numerical disadvantage.
Laurent Blanc’s position is already under threat. An opening-day loss to Strasbourg was followed by a drubbing at the hands of Montpellier. Alexandre Lacazette was also sent off late on as Les Gones were completely outplayed on their own turf.
Luis Enrique’s underwhelming start at PSG continues. Once again, Les Parisiens dominated possession but were lacking a cutting edge. The introductions of Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé changed that, the former winning and converting from the penalty. However, PSG couldn’t hold on and registered a second straight draw.
Nantes suffered a second consecutive defeat and pressure is already growing on Pierre Aristouy. Fine margins dictated the result of this game. Les Dogues went down to 10 men at 1-0 and then conceded, only for Les Canaris’ goal to be ruled marginally offside. Adam Ounas then made the break to give Paulo Fonseca’s side their first victory of the season.
Two of Ligue 1’s surprise packages from last season met on Sunday. Will Still’s Reims got the better of Pascal Gastien’s Clermont as the Champagne side bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Marseille.
Evann Guessand’s strike was cancelled out by a late Siriné Doucouré equaliser. Both sides have now drawn their opening two matches.
Brest have won two on the bounce. Tipped by many for relegation, Eric Roy’s side have begun the season brightly after beating Lens in matchday one.
A comfortable victory for Monaco against an unambitious Strasbourg side. Takumi Minamino got a double before setting up the third, scored by Wissam Ben Yedder. Monaco are top of the table after matchday two.
An entertaining draw between two teams chasing European football this season. Rennes struggled for large parts but had their chance to win it late on. It was a positive performance from Lens, who needed to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Brest.
