Wolves forward Pedro Neto obviously had not read the script, stunning the home crowd with an early goal after being set up by Raul Jimenez, before Sadio Mane equalised for the hosts midway through the first half, slotting coolly past away goalkeeper Jose Sa.
After Senegalese forward Mane had a second-half strike correctly disallowed for offside, Mohamed Salah scored late on to give the Reds three points but it was not enough as City turned things around at Villa, winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down and taking the league championship.
