Jordan Henderson's mistake-riddled return at Burnley has sparked concern among Liverpool fans as they face a tough trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League this week.

Although Jurgen Klopp's side clocked up a sixth straight win in all competitions thanks to Fabinho's first-half strike, Liverpool fans could not believe how sloppy Henderson was.

The midfielder returned to the Liverpool side after missing the 2-0 win over Leicester with a back injury but struggled to copy with the physicality of a typically difficult afternoon at a rain and wind swept Turf Moor.

Although Jurgen Klopp's side clocked up a sixth straight win in all competitions thanks to Fabinho's strike, Liverpool fans could not believe with Henderson's display.

The Liverpool captain was wasteful in possession, posting only 50% passing accuracy, in stark contrast to his midfielder partners Fabinho and Naby Keita, who had 83% and 90% passing accuracy respectively.

Henderson was hauled off by Klopp shortly before the hour mark for Thiago Alcantara, who ended the game with 82% passing accuracy.

The Spain international's arrival gave Liverpool far more control of the game and they comfortably saw out the win to cut the gap with Manchester City down to nine points at the top of the table.

But many fans expressed their worry on social media about Henderson, 31, saying this type of display cannot go on.

One user said Henderson's performance was the worst they had seen, even stating that he should not be starting when all other midfielders are fit.

Another pointed out that it was the fifth time this season Henderson has had sub-60% passing accuracy, asking 'When do we begin to worry?'.

One fan even made an unflattering comparison between Henderson and hapless former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, a damning indictment of the midfielder's performance.

Henderson has been the midfielder lynchpin of Liverpool's renaissance, proving his doubters wrong, including Alex Ferguson, who famously said he ruled out signing him for Manchester United due to his running style.

Henderson also managed to keep Keita out of the team when he first joined from RB Leipzig for £52million.

But there is genuine concern that Henderson will not be able to maintain his place in the team for long now with competition from Fabinho, who has scored five goals since 2022 began, the slick-passing Thiago and Keita, who has truly settled into the team in the last year after a difficult start to life in the Premier League.
