Liverpool learn where they stand with PSG's Bradley Barcola stance after Yan Diomande move

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, having appeared to miss out on Yan Diomande to the French giants

Liverpool have been handed a potentially significant blow to their hopes of landing Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola.

The Reds have repeatedly been linked with a move for the France international during the summer transfer window.

Andoni Iraola will be hard at work preparing for his debut season as Liverpool's new manager following confirmation of his appointment earlier this month, taking over from Arne Slot in the hotseat.

Barcola has been linked with Liverpool for quite some time, and speculation surrounding a potential transfer intensified following the recent news regarding Diomande's preference to move to Paris.

A report in The Athletic has suggested, however, that PSG have no intention of selling Barcola, and have slapped a price tag on the 23-year-old of more than £116million - the same figure that Manchester City are reportedly set to pay to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

Barcola is contracted to PSG until the summer of 2028, and the report suggests he is not currently prepared to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Despite this, PSG appear firmly intent on keeping Barcola at the Parc des Princes this summer, which could represent a considerable setback for Liverpool as they seek to strengthen their wide forward options.

Liverpool have long been anticipated to conduct significant transfer business this summer, especially following the exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, all of whom departed as free agents.

RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande has emerged as a primary target for Liverpool this summer, with the Reds already indicating a readiness to offer up to £86million for the Ivory Coast international.

Yet reports over the weekend suggested that Diomande had indicated a desire to join PSG, with the Champions League winners now appearing as frontrunners to land the gifted 19-year-old.

An earlier report from The Athletic indicated that Liverpool had pinpointed alternatives to Diomande should a move for the Ivory Coast international fail to materialise.

Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, FC Koln's Said El Mala and Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo have all been mentioned as possible alternatives to Diomande for Liverpool, though there has been no significant development regarding any of the three.

One signing has already been confirmed by Liverpool since Iraola's appointment, with Victor Munoz finalising a permanent switch from Osasuna for a fee understood to be in the region of £34.5million.
