Liverpool are weighing up a move for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who has continued to impress, with the Reds' sporting director Richard Hughes already signing him in the past
Liverpool are keeping tabs on Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who the Cherries now value at £75million with the winger enjoying another stellar season, which began with a brace at Anfield.
Semenyo chose to remain at the Vitality Stadium in the summer despite seeing some of his big name team-mates move on after impressive years. The Reds are now weighing up a move with sporting director Richard Hughes also a big admirer of Semenyo having signed him from Bristol City when he was at Bournemouth.
Semenyo then cost just £10.5m, but could now move on for more than seven times that given his continued rise at Bournemouth, reports talkSPORT. His stellar start to the season will only see the Cherries believe their hefty price tag is justified.
The Ghanaian has six goals to his name, with only Erling Haaland above him across the Premier League. His individual quality has continued to aid Andoni Iraola's side as they again sit among the top sides.
Manchester United weighed up a move for Semenyo in the summer, as did Tottenham, and it is understood that the Red Devils continue to keep tabs on the player. However he ended up signing a new deal with Bouremouth and Ruben Amorim instead landed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The United boss is reported to have met Semenyo for dinner in London at the end of last season to get a gauge on the player's character. CEO Omar Berrada and transfer chief Jason Wilcox also held conversations with Bournemouth over the former Bristol star, but nothing ultimately came of it.
United were ready to fork out £55m to sign Semenyo, who scored 13 times last season. However, the player himself is said to have committed his future to Bournemouth after learning that the Manchester outfit were planning to pay him less than what they offered to other targets.
Liverpool's interest in Semenyo may be viewed as something of a surprise, especially given their number of attacking players and the current struggles with trying to fit them into an effective line-up. Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz were all signed in the summer.
They complement Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, who were already at the club. One player who did swap Bournemouth for Liverpool recently was Milos Kerkez, but the Hungarian has so far found it difficult to replicate his level at Anfield with Andy Robertson often playing ahead of him.
