Liverpool's title hopes have been dealt a fresh blow with Diogo Jota set to miss the next two weeks with an injury.

The Portuguese only made his return last week after being sidelined with a knee injury since February but is expected to be sidelined until May.

'Unfortunately Diogo Jota scored a goal and felt a bit [of a problem] — he will be out for two weeks,' Jurgen Klopp said in his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Merseyside derby.

'I can't really say a lot about it, to be honest. He felt a little bit in the hip, but he was fine. Then he started last game and was okay and with the finish, it's a small one but we are late in the season.

'Obviously it's not a great moment for any injury. It's two weeks, pretty much nothing but enough to be unavailable.

If the prognosis is confirmed, Jota will miss Liverpool's trips to Goodison Park tomorrow night and to the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

He is also expected to be ruled out of the game against Tottenham at Anfield on May 5, but should be fit in time for the visit to Villa Park eight days later.

Jota suffered a collateral ligament tear in his right knee when Christian Norgaard fell on his leg during Liverpool's 4-1 win away at Brentford in February.

The 27-year-old returned to action in the Reds' 3-0 defeat against Atalanta in their Europa League quarter-final two weeks ago and came on as a substitute in the 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace three days later.

Jota also came off the bench in the second leg against Atalanta and scored in Liverpool's 3-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, in his first start since February 17.
