Liverpool transfer news: Arne Slot eyes 3 new signings as defender wants exit

Liverpool have entered a new era under Arne Slot, but they are yet to make any major moves in the transfer market.

Experienced players Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara have left the club after their contracts expired, while full-back Calvin Ramsay has joined League One side Wigan Athletic on loan. The Reds finished third last season under Jurgen Klopp, while also winning the Carabao Cup.

They will be hoping for more success under new boss Slot and may need to bring in some new faces in order to deliver that. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at all of the rumours coming out of Anfield.

Slot eyes three signings

Liverpool are considering moves to strengthen three positions this summer, with a new centre-back, defensive midfielder and forward on the cards.

18-year-old Lille star Leny Yoro is among Liverpool's defensive targets, but there is a widespread belief that he is set to join Real Madrid instead. It is understood that Liverpool will only make a move if the right player is available, but departures could change their plans.

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is available for £25m, while it will take bids of more than £50m to tempt Liverpool into selling Luis Diaz. The likes of Tyler Morton, James McConnell and Bobby Clark could also be shipped out on loan.

Endo delivers transfer verdict

Wataru Endo has insisted he wants Liverpool to sign a new No.6 this summer - even if it ends up limiting his game time.

"I don't care about those reports, but I also think it would be better to get the number six midfielder," he told ABEMA Sports Time, as per MSN. "I think there is a possibility that they are viewing a number 10 player [Alexis] Mac Allister as a number six/anchor, but at the moment there aren't many number six players to begin with.

"Considering my age, I think it might be okay for me to get the number six. But if it ultimately makes the team stronger then I'm all for it, because there will be competition and I just have to win my position again. So I'm not really worried about it, and in fact I think it might be okay if I win."

Van den Berg wants exit

Sepp van den Berg spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Mainz and the Liverpool defender "definitely" wants to return on a permanent basis.

Van den Berg made 33 league appearances for Mainz as they finished two points clear of the relegation zone and the club's sporting director Christian Heidel has revealed the 22-year-old is keen on re-joining them.

"The only one who has made a decision is Sepp," Heidel told German sports magazine Kicker. "He definitely wants to stay in Mainz. He has said that very clearly in public."
