Luis Diaz has just over two years remaining on his contract with Liverpool and while the Reds are very keen to retain the winger’s services, it appears that he could have potentially selected his next employers
Luis Diaz could achieve a childhood dream and play for Barcelona should an agreement not be found over a new contract at Liverpool. The winger’s current deal runs until the summer of 2027, with the Reds reaching a time where they need to either tie him down to a new contract or sell him.
It has already been suggested that the Merseysiders are keen to extend Diaz’s stay at Anfield, with a significant pay rise potentially on offer. And the former Porto star has since spoken out to confirm he is keen to stay with discussions commencing soon.
"I’m really happy and I have been like this since the first day I arrived,” he told Colombian TV station Telemundo Deportes about his future at Anfield.
"I’ve always been very calm and I have really just been enjoying the football played by this great team, being a part of this. We will be talking, the talk about it (his future) will happen. For me, I’d stay for as long as possible.
"It also depends on the club, it all depends on the details. They’re all details that are sorted out separately. But I am very calm, very happy and I am enjoying the Premier League."
Should talks hit a stumbling block, however, Diaz already appears to have picked out his next club. Back in December, the winger was linked with a move away from Anfield, with Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly among his admirers.
It was further suggested that Diaz would have preferred a switch to Catalonia. Diaz’s father also spoke out on a potential move to Barcelona, claiming it would have been a dream for his son.
“The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment,” Diaz senior said. “It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there.

“So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him. Luis is a player who finds it easy to win [fans] over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication. He is a very disciplined player, thank God.
“There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”
Diaz joined Liverpool from Portuguese giants Porto back in January 2022 and he has gone on to make 146 appearances. He has been key for the side once again this season having scored 17 goals in all competitions throughout the campaign.
