Luis Diaz's father has admitted he hasn't given up hope over a move to Spain.

Liverpool forward Diaz is under contract until 2027 but, despite remaining a key player under Jurgen Klopp, has now been linked with a shock switch away.

Diaz joined the Anfield side in January 2022 and has competed for places across the Reds' front three against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota.

Despite him winning several trophies on Merseyside, Diaz's dad has teased a transfer to LaLiga and name-dropped past suitors Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

'There was never anything serious with Real Madrid or Atletico [in 2022],' Mane Diaz told Cadena Ser. 'Liverpool were always more determined and concrete to sign Luis.'

He then went on to add: 'We haven't lost our hope yet. Luis is playing well and Spanish clubs are always active in the market.'

It is thought that Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Diaz, who has scored 11 goals and registered five assists during his 39 appearances this season.

Three of Diaz's strikes have come in the Reds' last seven league games and he is set to be crucial as the outgoing Klopp looks to win more trophies in his final season.

Diaz has been away with Colombia during the international break but is likely to return to Klopp's squad for the weekend's showdown against Brighton.

He captained Colombia to a 1-0 victory against Spain at the London Stadium on Friday and also played 66 minutes in yesterday's 3-2 win against Romania.

Klopp had been concerned over Diaz's condition after he was taken off before the final whistle of Liverpool's dramatic FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

'The boys go on international duty, we hope they come back healthy,' Klopp said.

'Lucho [Diaz] felt his groin, Darwin hamstring. Cody twisted his ankle. They play again in four or five days, it's crazy. Hopefully we will finish the season in style.'

Diaz has scored 22 goals and chalked up 13 assists in his 86 Reds appearances.

Liverpool remain in the hunt for two more trophies after lifting the Carabao Cup, with the Premier League title and the Europa League crown both up for grabs.
