Luis Enrique's injury list grows

  /  autty

A series of recent injuries will have given Luis Enrique a headache, as the Asturian coach prepares to name his latest Spain squad.

La Roja will take on Wales in a friendly and England in the UEFA Nations League in the October international break, but they'll have to do so without a number of regulars.

Isco is one of the most high-profile absentees, with the star midfielder having had appendicitis.

He required surgery and will miss the next few weeks, although he'll know he remains a key part of Luis Enrique's future plans for when he is fit again.

Sergi Roberto, on the other hand, is one of the fringe players in the squad and is could also miss this chance to impress the new boss.

He made it into the former Barcelona coach's first squad in September, but suffered a quadriceps injury against Athletic Club on Saturday and might not be back in time for international duty.

There are many other players in Sergi Roberto's position, but there aren't so many candidates at centre-back, making Inigo Martinez's injury in that same Barcelona-Athletic match an issue.

Diego Llorente was already out with aleg fracture, but now Martinez is expected to miss two weeks with a quadriceps injury.

Mario Hermoso would have been one of the potential replacements, but the in-form Espanyol centre-back now has an adductor injury of his own and he might not be available either.
