Former Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari discussed Ronaldo's departure from the Portugal national team in a video. Scolari, currently the technical coordinator at Gremio, strongly backed the forward and said the star "made the right decision."

Ronaldo officially announced his retirement from the Portugal national team on Thursday, just days before Portugal coach Jorge Jesus was due to announce his new squad list. The two had a public falling-out in September.
Scolari Expresses Respect and Best Wishes
Scolari, who managed Portugal from 2003 to 2008, paid Ronaldo high tribute and sent his best wishes after hearing the news. In August 2003, it was Scolari who first called up Ronaldo, then an 18-year-old rising star who had come through the Sporting CP youth system, to the national team. Assistant coach Murtosa helped scout and approve Ronaldo at the time.
Scolari said: "First of all, I want to tell you that he is one of the best players I have ever had the privilege to coach, not only as a player but also as a person. He did everything we asked of him and achieved everything he wanted because he always worked hard for it. He is one of the best players I have coached in my career, and I am happy that he made this decision. My heart will always be with him."
"Ronaldo, you did well, you are at peace, and you made the right decision. You are an athlete Portugal will never forget, and as your friend and admirer, I will never forget everything you did for me and your teammates. It was Murtosa, Rui and people from the youth setup who recommended you to us. Murtosa personally went to watch you, and what we saw then was a remarkable person and an excellent player. I wish you all the best, and I will always want the best for you."
