Lyon owner John Textor submits bid to become Everton majority shareholder

According to an exclusive report by The Guardian, Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor has sent an offer to Everton to become their new majority owner. The English outlet writes that Textor’s bid is thought to have the same terms as the one he sent on the 1st of June in the previous round of bidding.

In June, Textor had lost out to the Friedkin Group (who also own AS Roma) who reached an agreement to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club. However, the American investment firm pulled out of the deal in July following concerns over the £200 million loan provided to the club by 777 Partners during their unsuccessful attempt to become owner.

The Guardian notes that a significant stumbling block remains in Textor’s way. The American businessman already owns a minority share in Crystal Palace and he will have to sell this before being allowed to purchase Everton. However, it is thought that Textor is confident selling his 40% share will not be a problem.
