Tottenham Hotspur announced that Maddison was voted Player of the Match by fans with 69% of the votes, following his brilliant goal and excellent performance in the team's 3-1 victory over Coventry. This was his first start in an official match in 536 days.
Monday night was unforgettable for Maddison. After nearly 18 months away, the Tottenham Hotspur No. 10 finally started for the team again, making the occasion even more special by scoring a superb goal in the 14th minute.
This was Maddison's 21st goal from outside the box in the Premier League. Since his Premier League debut in August 2018, he has scored more goals from outside the box than any other player.
Maddison's last start for Tottenham Hotspur came on May 1, 2025, in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt. That match was also the last time he scored while wearing a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.
However, Maddison restrained his celebrations somewhat, as Coventry was the team he supported from childhood.
In the 69th minute, Maddison was substituted for Gallagher and received warm applause from fans as he left the field.
In the official Tottenham Hotspur App's exclusive Player of the Match poll following the match, Maddison received 69% of the votes, securing a clear victory and earning Player of the Match honours.
Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Match awards in the 2026/27 season:
