Man City 1-1 Everton PLAYER RATINGS: Which star had an afternoon to forget?

  /  autty

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw against Everton in their Boxing Day clash.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute after applying the finishing touches in a neat City move and poking past Jordan Pickford.

However the Toffees hit back just 22 minutes later when Iliman Ndiaye, who was left alone at the back post, smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

After the break, City had the chance to take the advantage once more when they were awarded a penalty - after a foul on Savinho - but Erling Haaland saw his effort saved by Pickford.

Both sides had chances to find a winner late on however, in the end, neither could and the points at the Etihad were shared.

Mail Sport's JACK GAUGHAN was on hand to provide player ratings for both sides.

MANCHESTER CITY

Stefan Ortega - 6

Iliman Ndiaye’s equaliser was a stunner, with no blame apportioned to Ortega. Seemed frustrated by a lack of passing lines on occasion.

Rico Lewis – 6.5

Excellent before half time before later fading, potentially a sign that he’s played too much football recently.

Manuel Akanji – 5.5

Won’t want to see Iliman Ndiaye’s equaliser again, swinging a leg at a cross. Didn’t really seem himself.

Nathan Ake – 6.5

Big ask for Ake to come in after persistent injury problems – and he was forced off again late on with a hamstring issue. Had played well.

Josko Gvardiol - 6

Everton’s set up didn’t allow for Gvardiol to really penetrate in attacking areas. Handled Jack Harrison well enough.

Mateo Kovacic - 6

Eager to move the ball quickly, although without great incision. More solid defensively with Bernardo Silva in tow.

Bernardo Silva - 6

Nicked the first goal, in off Jarrad Branthwaite, before missing a glaring chance to double their lead.

Savinho - 5

Often looked like threatening when taking up dangerous positions yet the Brazilian’s final ball flattered to deceive.

Phil Foden - 7

The bright spark again, engineering two huge chances in the first half. One still trying to things happen as the game meandered.

Jeremy Doku – 5.5

Assist for the opener. Plenty of the game spent heading down blind alleys and not seeing runs made off the ball.

Erling Haaland - 5

An afternoon to forget. Saw his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford and never looked like scoring from open play after an early flurry.
