Man City's new boy Nico Gonzalez endures nightmare debut as he limps off injured

Nico Gonzalez had a debut to forget in Manchester City's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Leyton Orient on Saturday.

With City still recovering from their worst run of form since his arrival at the club, Pep Guardiola made a number of forays into the transfer market as he looks to strengthen his squad.

The latest of those new additions was Gonzalez, with the Spanish midfielder becoming City's fourth signing of the January window after completing a £50m switch from Porto earlier this week.

Gonzalez was named in the starting XI as City travelled to Brisbane Road looking to book their place in the FA Cup fifth round.

However, the 23-year-old's first start at his new club would quickly turn sour.

With the game level after just 15 minutes, Gonzalez received the ball in the centre of the pitch and was quickly set upon by Orient forward Sonny Perkins.

Gonzalez was quickly dispossessed, with the ball subsequently falling to Spurs loanee Jamie Donley just after the half-way line.

Donley then launched a speculative effort, with the strike bouncing off the crossbar and then City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to put the League One side in front.

Any hopes that Gonzalez would be able to redeem himself were quickly dashed after the visitors went behind.

Just minutes after the opening goal, Gonzalez went down injured and was unable to continue, with Guardiola bringing on Bernardo Silva to take his place in midfield.

After repeatedly testing Orient goalkeeper Josh Keeley, City were finally able to draw level in the second half after Rico Lewis' shot was deflected off Abdukodir Khusanov.
