Manchester United have been handed a transfer blow in their pursuit of Danish international Christian Eriksen, according to reports.
The playmaker is available to sign on a free transfer following the expiry of his Brentford contract on June 30.
New boss Erik ten Hag is keen to oversee a summer overhaul at Old Trafford ahead of his debut season, although no incoming deals have yet been agreed.
The Red Devils reportedly made an offer to sign Eriksen on Tuesday, eager bolster their midfield with creative options.
According to The Athletic, the playmaker would prefer to stay in London next season, handing boosts to Spurs and Brentford in the race for his signature.
However, no reports have surfaced to suggest Manchester United's offer has been entirely rebuffed as of yet.
The 30-year-old reportedly held 'good talks' with Thomas Frank in a dinner meeting on Tuesday about a potential contract extension at Brentford.
Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has admired Eriksen since their time together at Inter and has the draw of Champions League football at his disposal, unlike the Red Devils who finished sixth and Brentford who came 13th last campaign.
Eriksen told Swedish outlet Viaplay: 'I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision.
'I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn't essential for me.'
