Man Utd’s forgotten man closing in on permanent transfer with Red Devils

MANCHESTER UNITED are working to offload Donny van de Beek this summer, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and is no longer wanted by manager Erik ten Hag.

He made just two appearances for United last season - one of which was a two-minute cameo in the Premier League.

Van de Beek was sent on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt in January, but struggled to get his campaign going.

The Dutchman was limited to just eight Bundesliga appearances and failed to score or get any assists.

To make matters worse, the German side rejected the opportunity to trigger his £12million option to buy.

And now he is set to be sold by Man Utd for a fraction of the £35m he originally cost.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are pushing to sell Van de Beek before the 2024-25 season kicks off.

The midfielder has just one year remaining on his current deal, so another loan move has been ruled out.

United want to recoup some of the fee they paid Ajax for him and will not let him leave on a free transfer this summer.

However, his contract situation is putting off potential suitors.

Van de Beek joined Man Utd in September 2020 and has since made 62 appearances.

The ex-Ajax star has scored two goals and assisted two since signing for United.

But he will have no place in Ten Hag's squad going forward.

Mason Mount, who joined Man Utd last July, is set to have a bigger role in midfield this season.

The England star missed the majority of the 2023-24 campaign due to injury.
