Man Utd 0-2 Burnley: More embarrassment for Ole after second straight defeat

  /  R47

Manchester United produced a woeful performance as Burnley left Old Trafford with a 2-0 win on Wednesday.

Match Report

Goals from Burnley's Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez inflicted an embarrassing 2-0 defeat on Manchester United at Old Trafford, a loss that will surely bring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's position into question once again.

It was Solskjaer's first home league match as United manager without Marcus Rashford - who is set for a long absence with a back injury - and his absence was telling, as the Red Devils showed little cutting edge in the final third against a Burnley side that was typically set up to frustrate.

Although United dominated much of the first half, the chances they created were wasted and Burnley were far more clinical, going into the break with a one-goal lead thanks to Wood despite having just three shots to the hosts' 11.

United were arguably even worse after the interval. The opportunities they had been crafting dried up and a phenomenal strike from Rodriguez ultimately gave them too much to do, meaning fourth-placed Chelsea remain six points clear of Solskjaer's men.

16' WHAT A CHANCE missed by Martial!

Wan-Bissaka is the man on the right and rolls a neat cross straight into Martial's pass inside the box. He's only about eight yards out but is caught on his toes and completely misses his kick.

28' CHANCE! Big miss from Mata

Again, it's Wan-Bissaka that gets free down the right. This ball is another good one and finds Mata about seven yards out but he completely misses his kick.

32' SAVE! James' header denied by Pope

Wan-Bissaka goes on the outside of McNeil and digs a cross out towards the back corner. James goes up with Mee and somehow wins the header...it loops towards the top corner but Pope helps it over the crossbar.

39' GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 Burnley (Wood)

A free kick is launched long from 50 yards and Mee once again beats Matic in the air. They have plenty of men forward and Wood is the quickest to react to the second ball about 12 yards out.

He was alive to the opportunity and bangs a brilliant finish past De Gea.

56' GOAL! Man Utd 0-2 Burnley (Rodriguez)

Mouths are wide open in the home ends at Old Trafford - they have just seen something special.

There doesn't look much on for Rodriguez as he picks the ball up down the left but he takes a few forward touches before unleashing a rocket that catches De Gea out at his near post. The ball crashes off the underside of the bar and into the net.

90' Man Utd goal ruled out!

Shaw heads home from Mata's diagonal cross, but the referee blows his whistle! The United full-back is adjudged to have pushed Hendrick.
