Man Utd deny Andre Onana transfer wish ahead of Old Trafford return

Andre Onana has spent the last season on loan with Turkish side Trabzonspor but as it stands he is set to return to Manchester United ahead of next term

Manchester United have no plans to reintegrate Andre Onana following his loan spell with Trabzonspor. The Cameroonian goalkeeper has spent the last season on loan with the Turkish side following a difficult couple of campaigns at Old Trafford.

Onana dropped a number of high-profile clangers following his lucrative move from Inter Milan, which saw United choose to move him on and sign Senne Lammens as his replacement.

With Onana’s loan with Trabzonspor set to expire over the coming weeks, he has already reportedly expressed a desire to return to Old Trafford and fight for his place. But those hopes look set to be dashed by the Red Devils as they attempt to get their squad in order ahead of next season.

According to ESPN, there are no plans to include the 30-year-old in the club’s squad and work is already underway to find potential suitors. However, one sticking point in offloading the goalkeeper could be his wages, which look set to rise this summer after United sealed a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Trabzonspor have regularly spoken out on the prospect of re-signing Onana and claimed that the Red Devils' financial demands would likely be prohibitive when it comes to a permanent move.

“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas told Gunebakıs earlier this year.

“I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe.

“His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.”

Meanwhile, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has suggested that only Onana will decide ultimately where his future lies.

Speaking to NTV Spor, he said: "Onana's career is already established. We like him. I've said this before. He has a certain plan for his career. If the conditions are right, we want him to stay. The final decision will be Onana's."

Onana has made 32 appearances for Trabzonspor this season and kept six clean sheets. He might not be the only goalkeeper to bid farewell to the club this season. Backup stopper Altay Bayindir could also be sold, having fallen out of favour since Lammens’ arrival.
