After bringing an end to a stretch of three defeats in four courtesy of a last-gasp 2-1 downing of Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek, Solskjaer and co. turned their attentions back towards matters on the domestic front, in a Premier League showdown with Everton.
United were no doubt well aware ahead of the action getting underway that a 3-point haul would, for the time being at least, guide them to the summit of the English top-flight table.
When all was said and done on Saturday, though, the hosts again came up short.
An altogether sub-par display ultimately culminated in United being forced to settle for a share of the spoils, in a 1-1 stalemate.
The Reds did open the scoring in the clash, when Anthony Martial lashed home from Bruno Fernandes’ inch-perfect pass on the stroke of the interval:
Twenty five minutes from time, though, Everton bagged what proved to be a decisive equaliser, as fine work on the part of both Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure opened the door for Andros Townsend to slot confidently beyond David de Gea:

In turn, it is safe to say that the home crowd at Old Trafford this afternoon did not exactly depart the stadium with spirits high.
Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, was spotted storming down the tunnel upon the full-time whistle sounding, evidently unhappy with both the eventual result, and his role off the bench.
One individual of a United persuasion, however, who did not appear all that concerned as the full-time whistle approached on Saturday was manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
As showcased below, with 94 and a half minutes on the clock in Manchester, and his side in desperate need of another late winner, Solskjaer was spotted full of smiles in dishing out directions to one of the hosts’ stars:
